Before a surgeon can perform a procedure, he has to first open the patient. In other words, he has to expose the disease or problem. In the same way that is what God’s Word does to us; it exposes us. God says in Heb 4:12-13:

“For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.” (NASB)

This verse and others like it penetrate and expose our sinful hearts and darkness; the Word exposes us for who we really are. Hebrews 4:12 tells us that God’s Word is living and active. This means that the Bible has God’s power to change us. The Bible is not some static history book full of old stories of long ago in a far away land. It is so much more than that, so let us never think of it as simply a history book.

Here’s a truth from God’s Word, God did not call you just to save you, He wants to change you; I Thessalonians says “For this is the will of God, your sanctification,” and He gave us the Bible as our primary source for change. God’s Word changes us because it is living and active.

Hebrews 4 continues by describing the Word as a two-edged sword. A two-edged sword is what a soldier would use when he wanted to cut deeply into the body, giving maximum penetration and exposure. Exposure to God’s Word is exposure to God Himself. These are God’s words and He is constantly with us, looking at us and seeing us for who we really are.

The word for laid bare in Hebrews 4:13 is a word that was used in the ancient world for when a person was found guilty of a crime, and as he was being led to the edge of the city to be executed, they would stick a dagger under his chin. With the knife under his chin, he couldn’t hang his head in shame for the crime he had committed, so he would have to hold his head up. Criminals couldn’t hide their shame or hide their identity from all those they had committed a sin against. This is what God’s Word does in our life – it exposes us for who we truly are.

God’s word sheds light on our darkness, and everything about us is laid open and bare for the Lord to see. Yet, in the midst of exposure, there is still hope, because we have a God who loves us and will forgive us if we ask Him to. Once we have accepted His forgiveness, we can become whom God has created us to be. There is no more hiding sin, no more false pretenses—everything is laid open and bare before the Lord; it is a truly freeing experience, and we can begin to change because we have accepted what God’s Word has said about us.

God’s Word ~ it’s alive, powerful, and it penetrates deep down to the soul.

Remember, we’re all in this together and I’m pulling for ya’! Bro. Danny

FOOTBALL SEASON IS UPON US!!!!!

For me personally this is one of the best times of the year when it comes to sports! NFL and college football are starting up! Baseball is moving towards October and the playoffs, and college basketball is in sight! It doesn’t get much better than that as far as sports are concerned.

Do you remember the last time your team lost, and I’m not talking about a close game, I am talking about the last time they got destroyed, when it wasn’t even close from the beginning? Do you remember a time like that? Very likely, after the game when the coach was interviewed he said something along the lines of, “We just need to get back to the basics.” In all sports, if you fail at the basics, it doesn’t matter how much talent you have, how great your plays are, how perfect your game plan is, if you fail at the basics you will not succeed. That is why professional athletes do some of the same drills they did when they were 7 years old learning how to play their sport.

The same is true for Christianity. If we fail at the basics, we will not succeed. How are you doing when it comes to the basics? Are you spending time in God’s Word so that you know His voice? John 10 teaches us that if we know God’s voice we will follow Him, and not follow strangers. We have lots of competing voices that try to distract us from the voice of God. So do you know God’s voice? Do you spend time in His Word? How about prayer? Is prayer a significant part of your life? Read through the book of Acts and see how integral prayer is in everything in the life of the earliest Christians! How about sharing your faith? Are you sharing Christ with those God has placed in your life both in deed and word? Lastly, are you growing? Are you different than you were last year, or the same?

So how are you doing on the basics? Maybe as a church we need to get back to the basics of digging into God’s Word, desperately seeking God in prayer, sharing our faith, and making sure we are continuing to grow and become more Christ-like. Let’s get back to the basics together!
In Christ,
Josh Robertson

September 2010
08.30.2010

I love this time of year. Football is starting, baseball is headed for the playoffs, the weather is cooling off with a hint of fall, the aspen are turning their beautiful golden color, and football is starting. Did I already say that? When I was a kid, September also meant “Back to school.” Now days many children have been in school for almost a month!

Here at ARBC there is a lot going on in September. We have our mission trip to Hungary. New discipleship classes are beginning. We have elected a Pastor Search Team. We usually think of springtime as the season of new things but not in church life. We start new things after Labor Day, too!

I wonder if the Lord has something new that He would like to start in your life. Maybe it is adding Bible study to your Sunday morning. Possibly it is attending one of the classes being offered on Sunday nights or during the week. Could it be sharing a word about Jesus with a lost family member or friend? Or getting that quiet time going on a regular basis after a busy summer? It might even be honoring God with your tithes and offerings taken from the “first fruits” instead of the leftovers of your paycheck!

Would you be willing to ask the Lord to do something new in your life this month? Who knows what exciting thing He will do to bring glory to Himself and be a blessing for you? Tell me about what new thing the Lord is doing in your life the next time you see me!

Because of Jesus,
Pastor Rob

September 2010 - Preschool Ponderings...
08.30.2010

Only God knows the full impact that your involvement in and support of VBS will have.  Thanks again for the part you played in ARBC’s Saddle Ridge Ranch VBS!  For those of you who weren’t able to participate this year, start planning for next year!

Do you ever watch a child and just feel God’s awesome power in this little person He has created? His children are full of desire to be nurtured and loved.  They have the capacity from birth to begin to imitate and trust those around them. The ARBC Preschool is in great need of Adults and Youth who will volunteer to be a reflection of Christ and help lay the foundation of Christian love and Bible teaching.  If you are willing to help with Preschool ministries, please contact Ginger LeBlanc or drop off a note in the church office, attention Ginger, with your name and contact information.

This article is bouncing all over the place, just like our preschoolers, and we are excited about what ARBC has to offer our children.

  • We will have some events in September for our preschoolers and their families.  We’ll keep you posted on dates and times.

  • In October we will have our annual Fall Festival on October 31.  Adult and Youth Sunday School Departments, start planning now for your “booth” or entertainment for the festival.  What can you do to provide a great experience for the families in our community and to be able to respond to opportunities to share Christ or encourage participation in ARBC services and events? What a fun way to show our community that we care about them!

  • We need a name for our Preschool Department and we’d like to hear your suggestions!  Send your ideas to Ginger LeBlanc or drop a note off in the church office to my attention, with your name and idea on it.

Evangelism training for the "Taste of Colorado"
08.10.2010

The evangelism training for the "Taste of Colorado" will be this Saturday, 8/14 from 9:00a-12:30p. at ARBC. Ron Clement, the evangelism coordinator for Colorado Southern Baptists will conduct the training. Ron has some good ideas about turning a conversation to the Lord. It would be good to come to the training even if you cannot participate in the "Taste of Colorado."

Have you wanted to share the good news with others, but didn't know how to steer the conversation to spiritual matters?
Are you reluctant to share your faith with others and even strangers?

Here is an exciting opportunity for you to learn conversational evangelism. Then over the Labor Day weekend, you will be able to put your learning into practice. You will be teamed up with a veteran evangelist who will coach you, giving opportunities and pointers.
Talking with those you have never met has wonderful advantages. You can try your conversational evangelism skills with someone you have never seen and may not see again. Yet, it is God who uses you and calls the sinner to repentance.
Your availability to share the gospel will be a seed that could lead to eternal life.
Come to the training on 8/14 to start an exciting journey with Jesus Christ.

Sharing the good news is infectious and leads to the joy of the Lord.

Blessings
The Evangelism Team
