Heather and I want to thank everyone who helped our youth raise $640 for cutting my hair. I am sure it will grow back…… I hope. We have been truly blessed to have people so willing to support the youth ministry.
DicipleshipNow (D-Now) weekend retreat is happening February 24-26, and we can use your help. If you would like to serve as a host home for the weekend, please contact Steven at the church office. Your help in this effort would be greatly appreciated. Also, if you would like to be a part of the prayer team for this event, please contact the church office. And if you would like to pray on your own for our youth this weekend, that would also be greatly appreciated.
Have a blessed February!

Thankful. Words cannot express how thankful I am to all of you who are continuing to make this transition from Kentucky to Colorado as smooth and as wonderful as possible. Between the generosity from all of you on the pounding on January 8, the hard work that has clearly been done at the South House, the encouragement you’ve given me for the sermons (to God be the glory)—and a myriad of other things—you have made my family and me feel loved, cared for, and encouraged as we enter into a new phase of ministry at ARBC.
Children’s Ministry. On Saturday, January 28, Karen Bransgrove came and spoke to our children’s volunteers. Praise God—we had 21 come out for the meeting, and we have about 6 who are ready to volunteer for a new Wednesday night children’s ministry called Worship Kids. It will begin March 7 and will be for elementary age children (kindergarten through 5th grade). Thanks to all who came out to help and provide prayer support for this very important ministry. We are so excited to see what God will do in the days ahead with our children. Keep on praying!
Worship. I had the privilege to having a great meeting with our Music Team on Saturday, January 14. First of all, thanks so much to Dee Dunn, Gloria Hughes, Dolores Sears, Gene Shoun, Don Taylor, and Diane Weston for keeping the music and worship ship not only afloat during this transition time—but sailing ahead beautifully. I was reminded of a passage from Colossians 3:16: “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. ” You see, the worship time is about proclaiming the Word through the vehicle of music. And I love that the apostle Paul included ‘psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs’—the whole spectrum of musical styles all come together for one purpose: to help the Word dwell in us! And reading through the Psalms, you see all sorts of instruments and ways they praised! What a variety God has allowed us to use in magnifying His name for His glory to the world! I told all of you that I pray our worship time is doctrinally sound with a joyful sound that declares His renown all around! May it be so!
Sermons. This February, we finish up the Epistle to James as we have looked at “Faith That Works.” Thank you all for the feedback and encouragement in telling me how God has used His Word to change your hearts! Keep praying that God’s Word would go all over and change all hearts in our church and community by His Spirit! In March, I’m excited about what God has put on me. It’s a series on “Why We Do What We Do!” Our worship services have parts in it where we call people to worship, listen to sermons, give offerings, pray, commit to Christ, and to be unleashed into the world. Why? Many times, we just go through the motions and don’t really think about how our worship services show the core values of what we believe at ARBC as well as showing us how to live our lives as Christians! Plus, this will be helpful for those new to the church who may think we just do this … just because! No! There is a helpful reason why we do what we do in our worship services - and why we should continue to do this in our day-to-day walk with Christ!
Outreach. Keep your eyes open for opportunities in the coming months to be involved in various outreach ministries, especially as Resurrection Sunday (April 8) rolls closer. Also, more information will be coming about how you can be a part of a team that, through letter writing, phone calls, and visits, can help make connections in our community and follow-up with those who have come to our churches. Make no mistake in your minds: people are starting to come visit ARBC and they love the people, the worship services, and are inquiring about who we are and what we are all about. Make those connections to them when you see them in church. Love them in Christ’s name. Every soul matters to God—and I pray that every soul would matter to every soul already at ARBC.
I love you all and am excited about where our church is headed in 2012. Strap on the armor (Ephesians 6:10-18)—let’s get ready!
Pastor Matt
