This month we’re looking at the last of our strategic numbers for Sunday School. If you have been following along, you know I’ve written about the 3 and the 5. Let me recap what those are. 3: The desired number of leaders in a class to run the class efficiently and effectively, so there would be no single super-leader/teacher doing everything. Ideally, each class would have one teacher to prepare the lesson each week. There would be one outreach coordinator who assigns class members people to contact each week – those missing in action. And finally there should be a fellowship coordinator who will plan and coordinate class gatherings. 5: This number is important because it allows the three leaders to teach by example. Each of those three class leaders should contact and minister to a maximum of five other class members. Men contact men and women contact women. This builds class relationships and is accomplished via phone, email, text, personal visits or any other means. With these three leaders contacting five other members, it is easy to see that the class already has eighteen people being ministered to. The last number we’re going to strategize is the number 10. According to research from LifeWay, every time a new Bible study group (Sunday School) is started, an average of ten (10) people are added to the church. I actually wondered about this number when I first heard it, but I counted how many we added after beginning the Revolution Sunday School class, and from this class 14 people have been added (when counting both the parents and kids). I’ve also talked with two other veteran Ministers of Education, and both confirmed this number to be fairly accurate. Remember, we’re talking averages. I hope by now you see what is taking place; if not, let me explain. Sunday School is about much more than simply coming to church and learning a lesson. That is part of it, but that’s not everything. If each class follows the 3-5-10 formula, it fosters a process of building relationships. And relationships are a type of invisible glue that holds your class together; the stronger the relationships, the stronger your class will be. Life is too short to live without life-sharing relationships, and your Sunday School class is supposed to be the small group with whom you share life. Let me close by encouraging you to step up and take an active role in your Sunday School class. Too often we talk about wanting the church or class to grow but we don’t do anything about it. Now is YOUR chance to make a difference; it’s time to step up and serve. If you truly want to see God move in the church, then let Him begin by moving you to have the right heart attitude to serve. Remember, we’re all in this together, and I’m pulling for ya! Posted by arbc at 07:52 AM | Comments (0)

On June 21, the Mens Brass Ensemble and a Mens Quartet will be involved in the morning Worship Service. On June 22, ride the ARBC bus to the MEF Conference in Colorado Springs for the Evening of Music service. On Sunday, June 28, the High School/College Choir of the Westgate Memorial Baptist Church in Beaumont, Texas, will be leading in the morning worship service, singing a variety of music. We will then host them at a pizza luncheon in the Fellowship Hall, along with our own Youth and Young Adults. This choir will be in our area all week, ministering with Ken Caryl Baptist Church. Come and enjoy meeting, worshipping, and fellowshipping with these Christian brothers and sisters. Posted by arbc at 07:42 AM | Comments (0)

I was reminded of the privilege that I have to be a Southern Baptist. God has blessed, graced and used Southern Baptists in the furthering of His Kingdom through missions. We have a mission support system which other denominations simply do not have. That is why we are able to place over 5,000 foreign missionaries and over 5,000 home missionaries on the field and take care of them. Several of our home missionaries serve right here in Colorado. Local missions operate primarily through our cooperation with the Mile High Baptist Association. At our Executive Board meeting a few weeks back, we were told of several ethnic works. There is a new Brazilian church start here in Denver with 30 people attending. A new Hispanic work in Wheatridge has begun and is running about 60 in attendance, with a high attendance of 104. Our Vietnamese church started out several years back with 17 attending and now runs 200. We also heard about Pastor Singh, who is starting an Asian Indian church in the Thornton area. Through ARBC’s giving to the Cooperative Program and our giving to the Mile High Association (ARBC is the largest contributor to the Mile High Association, and Bob Humphreys is chairman of the Administrative Team of MHBA), we get the privilege of obeying Jesus’ command to share the gospel locally, statewide, nationally and internationally. In addition to supporting missions, some of our members involve themselves in hands-on mission work. We have a group going to northeast Nevada to work with four churches from June 12—20. We are organizing to help Heritage of Praise in Fountain, Colorado, on August 15. There are five of our members going to Hungary in September. Barbara Crocker works with the Russian church each week. Elaine Phillips is director of Champa House, which is associated with the Denver Rescue Mission. I commend all of you for your work in the Kingdom, whether it is going or giving. Let me finish with a note of encouragement. Jesus said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” If you don’t believe Jesus, just ask one of the folks involved with hands-on mission work, and they will tell you the same. You are blessed when you serve! How about it? Do you want to be blessed? Then ask the Lord to show you which mission project you ought to be involved in. You still have time to sign up to go to Nevada (see Craig Howell). If you can’t go, you can pray daily for a particular project. I said I was finished above, but I lied! One more thought: Jesus said, “When everyone has heard the gospel, then shall the end come.” Let’s support missions in order to hasten the return of Jesus. See you on the Lord’s Day, Posted by arbc at 07:26 AM | Comments (0)
