I have been your pastor for a little over four years, and I feel it is time to look at what ARBC is doing well and what we not doing so well. To do this, we need someone objective to look at ARBC and see how we can do a better job with reaching and discipling people. To that end, I began looking for a trained consultant who could be that objective person.

Our Director of Missions, Dr. Bob Ryan, is one person I mentioned this need to, among others. He was able to link ARBC up with Larry Richardson, who is a Director of Missions in Illinois.

Music Ministry
01.05.2008

Our calling and purpose is to worship God in Spirit and in truth and to lead others into God’s presence through worship. In the process of doing this, you will meet many new friends and form lasting and meaningful relationships. As part of the Music Ministry you will also have many opportunities of service and ministry other than our Sunday morning worship experiences. And you will have the joy of leading worship, encouraging and influencing people in worship beyond the walls of this church. Please know that what we are about is WORSHIP, not performance. We are called to be worshipers - not to do worship.

InChWesta – January 2008
01.01.2008

As we move into and through the Christmas season, I would like to ask you for a gift. The gift that would mean the most to me is if you would join us in prayer for the Youth’s Winter Retreat, January 18—20. It will be held at Ponderosa Retreat Center, and it’s called “ICE Bound 08”. The theme for the weekend is “Revolutionary Love,” and it will include talks from my former youth pastor, who is an excellent communicator. We will be playing snow football and other games, going tubing, and have a bunch of crazy and fun times.

Here is what I desire your prayer for. I have challenged the students to each bring at least one friend on the retreat. Pray that they have the courage to invite their friends and that both they and their friends will be challenged and changed. I believe God is going to do big things with this weekend, and I want you to join us in prayer for it. I look forward in excited anticipation to see the work that God is going to do. Thanks for joining us in prayer!
In Christ,
Josh Robertson

ne Parson’s Opinion

Happy New Year to you! I trust you will experience the Lord and His provision for you in wonderful, unexpected ways in 2008.

My prayer for ARBC in 2008 is that we experience more and more of what it is like to be family.

Years ago, one of my evangelism professors at Southwestern Seminary was Dr. Oscar Thompson. One day in class, he said the most effective form of evangelism is church evangelism. He went on to explain that he was talking about loving the brethren and unity in the body.

My years of pastoral experience have proven Dr. Thompson correct. All of the programming, personalities and plans have not been as effective in church growth as the fostering of family life.

The best way to understand what is going on is to look at it from heaven’s perspective. Jesus said, “I will build My church (Matthew 16:18)”. This simply means He is the One who adds people to His church. It seems He adds people to a church that is already taking care of those He has given them (see the parable of the talents).
