02.24.2007

Week of Prayer for North American Missions
March 4-11, 2007
Let’s join others to Change Our World

  • National Goal for the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering is $57,000,000.
  • Arapahoe Road Baptist Church’s offering goal is $13,000.

All of the offering goes directly to missionary support, church planting support and evangelism. Let us pray for spiritual revival in our country as our 5,300 missionaries work to spread the good news of salvation. Give generously so that our missionaries will be provided for as they serve as our ambassadors for Christ. Offering envelopes will be in the pews March 4 through 25.

The Truth Project
02.24.2007

The Truth Project
Sundays, March 4-June 10
5:00-6:15 p.m.

The Truth Project is a DVD-based curriculum comprise of 12 one-hour lessons taught by Dr. Del Tackett. This study is the starting point for looking at life from a biblical perspective. Each lesson discusses in great detail the relevance and importance of living the Christian worldview in daily life.

In a recent study, the Barna Research Group revealed a stunning statistic that continues to reverberate throughout the evangelical world. Only 9 percent of professing Christians have a biblical worldview.

Because of this, today’s believers live very similarly to non-believers. A personal sense of significance is rarely experienced, we spend our money and time on things that fail to satisfy and we begin to wonder what life’s ultimate purpose really is. We are, in short, losing our bearings as a people and a nation.

To counter this slide within the body of Christ, we are offering Focus on the Family’s The Truth Project. If you want more information, see www.thetruthproject.org
or Jay Moyers, study leader.

March 2007 INCHWESTA
02.24.2007

All is going well in the realm of the youth! God has been continuing to work in and through all of our lives to cause us to be more and more like Him! I want to thank everyone who helped us out with the Discipleship Now Weekend! We are especially grateful to all those who opened up their houses to us for the weekend!

Along with our regular activities, I wanted to share with you a couple of events that are coming up for INCHWESTA in the month of March. On March 4, INCHWESTA will be meeting at the youth house at 3:00 p.m. to head down to Colorado Springs for the Winter Jam concert featuring Steven Curtis Chapman, Jeremy Camp, Hawk Nelson, and Sanctus Real. Also, March 23-24 will be the INCHWESTA ski retreat. We will be meeting at the church at 5:00 p.m. and leaving shortly after that. We will be returning Saturday in the late evening. Youth can sign up now at the youth house!

The theme verse for the Discipleship Now Weekend was John 3:30; which states, “He must become greater, I must become less.” I hope that it is the prayer in all of our lives that Christ becomes greater and greater, and we become less and less so that all glory will be given to the only One who deserves it!

In Christ,
Josh

ne Parson’s Opinion

Hopefully, by now you have heard that in the March business meeting our Personnel Team will bring a motion to begin the process of looking for a Minister of Education.

The Personnel Team introduced the idea at our February business meeting. They wanted everyone to have the opportunity to know about ARBC’s discussion about a possible new staff member. So, if you want to express what you feel the Lord wants us to do, plan to be in the March business meeting.

A very legitimate question to ask is, “Why does ARBC need a Minister of Education?” Without sounding “spiritual” the theological answer is to help ARBC fulfill the Great Commission.

The Great Commission says in Matthew 28: 18-20 that Christians are to make disciples. The discipleship process involves evangelism, teaching, training, developing and launching. We need someone to give leadership to those areas.

2006 Food Pantry Report
02.15.2007

Because of your generous donations to the food pantry we distributed an average of two bags of groceries each to 121 families in 2006. Seven families received Thanksgiving baskets and two families received Christmas baskets provided by one of our Sunday School classes and other individuals in the church. Thank you, Barb Stoner, for doing such a good job coordinating the food pantry.

ne Parson’s Opinion

There is a bit of misunderstanding (even among the theologically correct group called Baptists) about growth in the Christian life.

It is a simple misunderstanding to correct, but an enlightening insight once you get it.

When my kids were young we would measure how much they had grown during the past year. What I discovered by measuring is that the kids did not grow to their present height all at once. It was a process.

You say, “Jim, that is silly! Growth is a process!” Bingo! (Excuse me for using a gambling term. You know I have been hanging out with Presbyterians and bad company corrupts good morals! Ha!)

But this is the point. Growth in the physical realm and in the spiritual realm is a process.

You may hear some preachers tell you that all of your trouble with temper, lust, hate, envy, jealousy, covetousness, gossip (have I hit you yet?!) will disappear all at once. No, it won’t! You see growth in the Christian life is a process.

At salvation you became a new person! That new person has to grow and develop.

How do you grow? Answer! The Lord grows you as you involve yourself in the disciplines of the Christian life. What are the disciplines? Some of the disciplines are corporate worship, private devotion, prayer, giving, witnessing, and meditating on Scripture.

Let me illustrate. Imagine you have a weakness with materialism. Stuff matters more to you than the Lord or people. What to do? Go to the Lord in prayer and ask Him to change you. He will! But it will be a process. One day several years from now stuff will be just stuff.

Remember, brothers and sisters in Jesus, we are in process. Better than we were, but not as good as we are going to be.

See you on the Lord’s Day,
Jim

Feb 2007 INCHWESTA
02.15.2007

Well, it is hard to believe that it has been over a month since my first Sunday. I want to say thank you to all the youth and families who have made us feel so welcomed over the past month. It has been a blessing to begin to get to know everyone. We feel blessed to be here!

I wanted to give you a little look into what the youth have been up to over the past month. On Sunday mornings we have been looking at different religions, and learning how we can share our faith with those of different religions. On Sunday nights, even in the snow, we have been having a blast doing a variety of activities including mafia, ultimate spoons, and other games. On Wednesday nights we play games, have a time of worship, and a time of teaching. Currently we are going through the book of James.

The youth have decided on a t-shirt design for the youth t-shirts. On the front they will have the youth group name, INCHWESTA, and on the back top it says, “ARBC Youth,” and underneath that is says, “In Christ We Stand” which is what INCHWESTA means. If you would be interested in ordering a shirt, or if you would like to see the design, please let me know in the first week of February. They will cost $16 each.

I want to close with a passage in James that presents the central teaching of the book, James 1:22. “But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.” It is my prayer for all of us, including myself, that we would live out our faith actively and live according to the scriptures!

In Christ,

Josh Robertson
