That being said, I did what i am advising you not to do. I flipped open my bible and my eyes fell to Jeremiah 6:16, which says, This is what the lord says: “stand at the crossroads and look;
Ask for the ancient paths, Ask where the good way is, and walk in it, And you will find rest for your souls”. This passage intrigued me. I wondered, “are we at a I looked in a commentary, which says Jeremiah was telling the people they were at a crossroads and the path they needed to take was the ancient path, that is, the path of his law. It is a call to god’s people to live in obedience to the law of god. Applying this to us, I have to say we face crossroads each day. The choice we have to make is to obey God’s law or not to obey God’s law. When we obey, notice the promise, which was for God’s people in Jeremiah’s time and also for us today. The promise is we will find rest for our souls. Rest is good. I trust you and I will live in obedience to god’s word and experience rest for our souls. I seldom flip open my bible and look for a word from god. Often when I do, I open it to a passage that says something like “slay the philistines!” Then I am in a quandary as to how to apply “slay the philistines”. I wonder, “Does it refer to attacking deacons or Sunday school teachers?” Anyway, the best way to study the bible is to systematically study through a book. That way you can understand better the context and the historical setting and then make a correct application of the passage.
