ne Parson’s Opinion

I am not among the number of picky eaters, as evidenced by my girth. Therefore, we will be eating leftovers for several days after Thanksgiving and enjoying them.

Leftover—the word is interesting, is it not? It refers to the food that remains, that which has not been eaten. It also refers to the odds and ends, the orts, the leavings.

I wonder, as I think about leftovers in the food arena, if there are some leftovers in the arena of your life and mine. In other words, “Are there some issues I need to address before the year ends?”

The answer is Yes for me, and I imagine it is Yes in your life, too! Let me probe a few areas and see if the Holy Spirit will remind you of some leftovers which need to be dealt with before the year ends.

Is there hidden sin which needs to be confessed and forsaken?

  1. Do you need to tell some people that you love them?

  2. Do you need to send someone a card of encouragement?

  3. Do you need to forgive some folks for hurting you?

  4. Do you need to commit to being more faithful to worship service or prayer meeting?

  5. Do you need to catch up on your tithe?

I am writing this on Wednesday. We had someone over to the house for supper last night. Beverly made “Polish Hand Grenades” (for the unlearned, these are stuffed cabbage rolls!). For lunch today, guess what we had? Yes, the leftovers from last night, which were even better today.

Leftovers are part of life, but there comes a time when you have to deal with them. You have to eat them or throw them away. Isn’t it time for you to deal with the leftovers in your life?

See you on the Lord’s Day, Jim
