ne Parson’s Opinion

I was reading an article this last week which mentioned a “Pooped Pastor’s Conference.” It is an intriguing title. But there are a lot of “pooped” Christians, not just pastors!

Why do you think there are so many of us who are “pooped?” Since I raised the question and am writing the article, let me give a try at an answer.

There may indeed be several answers to the question. Maybe you are out of shape...maybe you are overworked.

But the “pooped” most of us face is of the emotional or spiritual kind. So, why is that?

My suggestion is that we think the “main thing” is the “next thing.” Therefore, we do not enjoy what we have right now. That means we live in tension, focusing on the next thing. That tension keeps us from enjoying the “right now.”

Folks, I lived this way far too long! How about you? Are you tired of living in the future?

How much do we miss by planning for, thinking about and preparing for the next thing? That approach to life builds great tension and is one reason we get “pooped.”

Remember Psalm 118:24: “This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

The main thing hardly ever is the next thing. The main thing is the hand God has dealt to you for the moment (I know, I just used poker imagery. But I hardly ever play poker anymore. I just felt I needed to reassure you of that because I need this job!).

God wants you to enjoy what is before you right now!

See you on the Lord’s Day!

Don’t forget to enjoy today!

Jim
