ne Parson’s Opinion

Reading an article recently, I was confronted with a question. It is such an intriguing question that I want to share it with you: Do you trust the Lord? I mean really, do you? Nobody is watching as you answer. Oh well, I guess God is, isn’t He?! But let’s don’t go there...

Dare we be honest? I know we are supposed to trust the Lord. I mean, He saved us from hell, and we are Christians, and we are supposed to say we trust Him.

But do we really?!

Let’s lay it on the line. Do we trust Him with our jobs, our futures, our finances, our health, our kids, our parents, the new president, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, the economy and more besides?

Do we really trust Him? You say, “Well, maybe I don’t really! It’s more like I close my eyes and hope and try not to think about it too much!”

Yep! I thought so - you are just like the rest of us. Sometimes we do better at this Christian stuff than at other times, but mostly, we struggle to get a little thing like trust right. Here is a brand new year in front of us with tremendous challenges, and, honestly, it’s hard to trust God.

Let me tell you a few things, fellow struggler:

  1. God knows you struggle.
  2. He loves you, pilgrim.
  3. If you’ll ask Him, He’ll give you the gasoline (in the Bible, gasoline is spelled g-r-a-c-e) to trust Him.
  4. You see, whether you realize it or not yet, we can’t do this Christian life by “our” hustle. It has to be by Him, of Him, through Him, and for Him.

Go ahead! Ask Him for the grace to trust Him with _______________. You fill in the blank.

See you on the Lord’s Day!
Jim
