ne Parson’s Opinion
On behalf of the people of the Alabama and Mississippi Gulf Coast thank you for your gifts. You have been so generous in your giving. I am proud of the way you have responded to this need.
All that you have given has been sent to Moffatt Road Baptist Church in Mobile or to Bay Vista Baptist Church in Biloxi. The exception being that we have taken some of the money to buy bleach and cleaning supplies to take with us to Biloxi. Any money you give in the future will be forwarded to Bay Vista to help with the needs in their community. (FYI – the expense for gas for the Biloxi trip is coming from the Mission Team’s budget. The cost for food and lodging is being born by the individuals making the trip.)
There are six of us making the trip to Biloxi. The six are: Wil Powell, Theresa Martens, Bob Wells, Wayne Peterson, Beverly and Jim Perkins. Please do pray for us. Our assignment will be to clean up yards. Pray we can help in some small measure the folks who have lost much. Also pray, that the Lord will set up some divine encounters where we can share the gospel.
The plan is to report about the trip at the business meeting in October.
I am grateful to the Personnel Team for allowing me to use a week of conference time to make the Biloxi trip.
I know there is the “why” question being asked among Christians. Why did Katrina and now Rita show up? What is God saying through all this? “I don’t know!” His reasons are hidden. All I can affirm is what I know to be true. I know He love us! The cross demonstrates His love for us. We must never forget in the dark what we have learned in the light.
I know when tragedy strikes God’s people are called to minister in Jesus’ name to the hurting. I also know Romans 8:28 is true. Our Lord, with His people, will make something good out of the tragedy.
So, let’s minister as we can and watch His activity unfold!
See you on the Lord’s Day,
Jim
