A View from the Fields - May 2005

One Parson’s Opinion

A new chapter begins with Gene and Candy Washburne coming to lead our youth and education ministry. Gene told me he is planning to begin his ministry with ARBC on May 16. Do you realize how soon that date will be here? In just a matter of weeks we will have a youth minister on the field.

For the Student/Education Search Team there were days when it looked like this process was going to take forever. Yet, we do have a Student/Education minister. It came about in the Lord’s time. Which is the best time, after all.

God promises in His Word to meet our needs (and ARBC had a need). Here is a sampling:

Phil. 4:19

And my God will meet all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.
Isaiah 58:11

The Lord will guide you always, He will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame.
Matthew 6:33

But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well. (The needs in this context are food and clothing).

But, notice none of these promises tie the Lord to a deadline, nor to our time frame. God is omniscient, which means He knows all. So He knows about our needs. He is also good. So, He will meet our needs in the best possible way and at the best possible time. But it may not be our way nor our time.

I affirm, on the basis of Scripture that the Lord meets our needs, even a church’s need for a youth minister, but He does it in His way and in His time.
Walking by faith is believing that our God, who is good and who knows all the circumstances will do what’s best, at the right time. I heard one fellow put it this way:

ARBC’s Search Team knows this by experience. Gene’s coming to us was certainly not our time, but God’s time, which is always the best.

Will you join me and take a moment to thank God for His timing and His gifts that the Washburne family will be to ARBC?

See you on the Lord’s Day.

Jim
