"Another Year is Dawning" - 2005
01.02.2005

In many churches, the first Sunday of the new year wouldn’t be complete without singing Fances Havergal’s great “Another Year is Dawning”. Its words reflect the deep consecration that marked her poems. Frances considered every New Year’s Day a never-to-be-missed opportunity of rededication to Christ, and several New Year’s hymns came from her pen.

Frances wrote this text in December of 1873 and sent it out to friends on a specially designed greeting card. Within a matter of days Frances received a disappointing setback. Expecting her first royalty check from her American book publisher she, instead, was notified of that publisher’s bankruptcy resulting from the Stock Market crash. Frances said, “Two months ago this would have been a real trial to me, for I had built a good deal on my American prospects. Now ‘Thy will be done’ is not a sigh but only a song.”

“ANOTHER YEAR IS DAWNING”
Another year is dawning, Dear Father, let it be,
In working or in waiting, Another year with Thee;
Another year of progress, Another year of praise,
Another year of proving They presence all the days.
