A View from the Fields, Jan 2005
01.01.2005

The lights and decorations all over the city and in your homes have been beautiful this Christmas season. I trust it has been a joyous Christmas for you and yours.

Thank you for the cards and the gifts you gave to the Perkins’ clan. You continue to be gracious to us!

Now, we close the door on 2004 and begin 2005. I wonder what will happen in 2005? I trust 2005 will be filled with blessings one after another. But, you know, as well as I, it won’t be all blessings. Life is not like that. 2005 will hold blessings, but there will be challenges, obstacles, sorrows and hurts, as well. You see, that’s life on planet earth.

Since 2005 will be filled with ups and downs, I have a suggestion to make. My suggestion is that you foster your relationship with Jesus. You will need to lean on Him in 2005. If you don’t know Him well, how will you lean on Him in the “day of trouble”?

Therefore, I encourage you to make a decision to spend some time alone with Him each day learning to lean on Him. As you learn to lean on the Lord, look at these promises that will be yours:

Proverbs 3:24 “when you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down your sleep will be sweet.”

Psalm 112:7 (Amplified version) “He shall not be afraid of evil tidings; his heart is firmly fixed, trusting (leaning on and being confident) in the Lord.”

Hebrews 13:6 “So we say with confidence, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?’”

“How much time do I need to spend with Jesus every day, Jim? I’m very busy!” Yes, I know you are busy. Let me suggest you begin with 5 minutes. Read scripture for 2½ minutes and pray for 2½ minutes. Don’t increase your time with Him until you feel you really must spend more time with Him.

I believe you will find regularity of meeting with Him is more important than the quantity of time you spend with Jesus.

By the way, over time, you’ll find you will want to expand the 5 minutes. But, right, now begin with just 5 minutes.

Trust me, you’ll need to know Him in 2005. I’ve looked in my crystal ball and you won’t believe what is in store for the USA in 2005. But that is for another article! Ha!

See you on the Lord’s Day.
Jim
