A View from the Fields, Oct 200409.30.2004
“Congratulations”, “At a boys!”, “I’m proud of you!” are words or statements that make us feel good when people take the time to notice and say them to us. If these words are important to hear, then these words are words others are longing to hear. It really is a simple thing to do to say, “You did good!” “I’m proud of you!” “I’m glad you are my brothers and sisters in the Lord!” “Thank you!” “You are a blessing to me!” I suggest that we are very busy people. I also suspect that all of us would say that people are the most important things in our lives. So in the “busyness” I suggest we all need to take a few moments to prioritize people and appreciate those in our lives who have blessed us and/or who have accomplished certain goals. Notice how the Apostle Paul begins his letter to the Philippians. “I thank my God each time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now.” (1:3-5) It looks to me like the Apostle is praising the folks he is writing to, he is blessing them, telling them he is proud of them and thanking God they are in his life. Let me try: ARBC you folks are a very good congregation! You are loving, kind, gracious, trusting, stable and supportive. You are a financially giving church. Thank you for calling me to be your pastor. I am blessed to be your pastor. You love and accept my wife and kids. That means much to a husband and a father. Thanks! Now why don’t you try it! Make a visit to someone in the church and tell them how they have blessed you. Call that son or daughter and tell them how proud you are that God gave them to you. Write a note to one and tell them you like something they did and you did notice. It will be good for you and good for them. In other words, both of you will be blessed by your efforts. See you on the Lord’s Day JIM Posted by arbc at 09:54 PM |
