A View from the Fields, August 200407.30.2004
Beverly and I hiked up to the Devil’s Tower a few weeks back while the kids were at MissionFuge. (As a matter of fact we did a lot of fun things while the kids were away in Hungary and at MissionFuge. We enjoyed then going on mission trips so much we have been checking in to them going with the Presbyterians on a trip! Ha!) Anyway, getting back to Devil’s Tower, we had a wonderful hike and the views were spectacular. But there were a few times climbing the stairs up to the tower itself that it was a bit scary. Honestly, there are times as we view the panorama of our life that we fear. Some of us fear the present and some of us fear the future. Then, some of us look back and fear bad decisions of the past that finally catch up. Some of us spread fear and make others anxious. Dear Christian, let me remind you that the evil one and his forces have tried unsuccessfully down through the years to thwart the Lord and His purposes. They have always been and always will be unsuccessful. The greatest illustration of this is Jesus. Satan got Jesus crucified. It seemed to him his greatest victory. But then came the third day! Jesus arose victorious over death, hell and the grave. What Satan thought was a triumph, in fact, was his greatest defeat. He was crushed! Praise God! Satan and his fiends continue to try to harass the people of God and the work of God. But not to fear! We have a glorious promise to cling to in the midst of anxiety. “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose” -- Romans 8:28 God promises to take the fearful things and make something good out of it. Not that “it” is good, but that He will make good out of it. Do you have a spirit of foreboding and apprehension? “Do you not know?
Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” -- Isaiah 40:28-31 See you soon! Posted by at 12:56 PM |
