A View from the Fields, July 200407.03.2004
One Pastor’s Opinion, Well, by now, you know the news! Gordon O’Briant (Lee) has resigned! God is moving Lee back to North Carolina. Lee, Shawna and the kids will be missed by all of the church. Lee has been the youth director at ARBC for eight years. Eight years is an unusually long time for Southern Baptist youth directors to stay in one place. So, let’s rejoice that the Lord Jesus gave Lee to ARBC for eight years. This is a new and exciting opportunity for Lee and his family. I trust you will rejoice with them and be excited for them. You also need to pray for them. There are many details to take care of. After all, they are moving all the way across the country!! Then, there will be the adjustment to the new church family and his job in that church family. This is an exciting time and also a fearful time for them. You remember how you felt as you accepted that new job. There was both euphoria and fear. The church will be honoring the O’Briant family with a fellowship on Sunday, July 18, right after our business meeting. Which, I am sure will be an abbreviated affair! Ha! The church voted in business meeting in June to encourage the members to give a love offering for the O’Briant’s. I trust you will give. There are always expenses in a move that come out of one’s pocket and are not reimbursed by the church. Remember that as you give. Also remember the eight years of service to ARBC. Let me encourage both the O’Brian family and the ARBC family with a glorious verse in Scripture. (Actually all of the verses are glorious!)
"He who did not spare his own Son, but gave Him up for us all – how will He not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?”
-- Romans 8:32
This is an argument from the greater to the lesser. If God has provided the greater – our salvation though not sparing His own Son – how will our Lord not in addition to giving us His Son provide the lesser – all things we need? The application is obvious. If the Lord has given us salvation, will He not take care of the little stuff in our lives, like a move to North Carolina and giving a church direction about a future staff member? You think about that! Posted by at 09:06 AM |
